Local project’s mission is to help locals living with a disability

Local project Bayside Basement are on a mission to be the leader in the delivery of tailored capacity-building projects within the community. The organisation was founded and is run locally, providing small, group-based programs for people living with a disability. The programs aim to encourage and guide the participants towards becoming healthy, independent, and socially active members of the community.

They recently had to move to larger offices (again!) to accommodate the consistently growing community and a busy calendar of events. From swimming, fishing, and arts & crafts, to cooking, dance and photography, they offer participants a fantastic range of activities, supporting the NDIS (National Disability Insurance Agency) system.

Bayside Basement logoThey specialise in working with smaller groups, recognising that participants in smaller groups feel like they are part of something, and therefore have more engagement and better follow-through and outcomes.

Through engaging with their clients and asking what they want, they offer specific workshops that are tailored to their needs, such as some new programs around money and finances, self-confidence, and interacting with retail staff, all focused on helping their clients find ways to have more and better social interactions.

What a wonderful service they provide – we are lucky to have such innovative services in our community!
