Wynnum Family Day Care wins national award
Here at WynnumCentral we’re very proud to announce that one of our members, Wynnum Family Day Care (Wynnum FDC), has been named Australia’s best family day care coordination unit in the 2013 Excellence in Family Day Care Awards.
The popular Brisbane family day care service was selected from hundreds of family day care services from across the country to take out the national title at a glittering awards ceremony in Melbourne on Saturday night. Wynnum FDC is one of 800 family day care services who collectively register more than 20,000 family day care educators and 125,000 children across Australia.
The coordination unit assists and supports their family day care educators to provide quality early childhood education and care in a regulated, nurturing, home-based environment.
Family Day Care Australia Chief Executive Officer Carla Northam congratulated Wynnum Family Day Care on their national award win.
“The quality of the entries in this year’s competition was high with each of the nominations revealing a commitment to providing quality outcomes for all of the children registered with their service,” Ms Northam said.
“To be named national winner is recognition of Wynnum’s dedication to assisting and supporting their educators in the provision of quality early childhood education and care.”
Wynnum Family Day Care has completed the National Quality Standard Assessment and was extremely proud and excited to be given an overall rating of ‘Exceeding’ the National Quality Standard. Wynnum Family Day Care has a multifaceted approach to supporting their educators and as a result they encourage a strong connection between the service and educators.
“Our organisation is a relationship-based business,” coordinator Cathy Bavage said. “Any decision we make is to meet the needs of the educator and the families and has a focus on quality practices for the sector.”
Wynnum Family Day Care has implemented the Child Development Initiative (CDI) to support children in care with a range of needs.
Coordinators meet weekly to discuss how to support children, parents and educators and have also continued to network with local health services.

This project includes a pilot speech consultancy program where a speech pathologist has been contracted using scheme funds to assess children with potential speech and language delays.
As well as the honour of being named best in the business, Wynnum Family Day Care won marketing and training packages valued at over $5,000.
