Peter Cumming elected as Wynnum/Manly councillor

…although it took a while to find out

The Electoral Commission of Queensland copped a lot of flak on a number of fronts during the Council elections. Firstly it proved to be pretty hard to avoid voting in person for many people. Despite this WynnumCentral understands that over 70% of local Wynnum residents cast their vote ahead of election day. Results were not clear for around a week after the election, but it’s fair to say that most people were focusing on other things. The final votes are now listed on the Electoral Commission’s website here – https://prodresults.elections.qld.gov.au/lga2020/00826/councillor

Peter Cumming (ALP) 54.17%
Megan Piccardi (LNP) 35.86%
Ken Austin (QLD Greens) 9.97%

The ABC election page has more information on the final vote count, including preferences, where Peter Cumming received 61.3% of preferences against Megan Piccardi who received 38.7%.

It’s interesting to note that Wynnum/Manly residents also voted for the ALP mayoral candidate Pat Condren.

Overall results for Brisbane do not look any different to before the election (a sign of a distracted electorate?) with all seats retained by their incumbents, apart from Paddington where vote counting is still going on with the Greens candidate challenging the LNP. At this point the LNP have a majority of 11 seats in Brisbane City Council. Business as usual.

Our congratulations go to Peter Cumming and our commiserations to Megan Piccardi and Ken Austin.
