New Turkish restaurant comes to Wynnum

In the past few days Edith Street in Wynnum has seen a new restaurant open – the much awaited Pera Palace Ottoman at 70 Edith Street, which officially opened its doors to the public for the first time last Friday (25th August). Currently they are open from 9am-3pm Tuesday to Sunday and from 5.30pm-11pm Wednesday to Saturday (although booking is essential for dinner).

As you can see from the photos, the restaurant is large but the amazing décor makes it feel quite intimate. That theme continues with a little nook at the back where you can sit down for a cup of coffee (Turkish of course) – or any other of a wide range of drinks. Plus there is a well equipped licensed bar at the very back of the restaurant.

The menu is straightforward and the choice of coffees, teas and other hot and cold drinks, is wide. When we visited we opted for the Turkish coffee, in our case in a takeaway cup, but there is a more traditional Turkish coffee available if you decide to stay and drink your coffee (see photo).

They also have some vegan and vegetarian options, and for those who are gluten free, all menu items can be made gluten free.

It’s not just a restaurant though as there’s a small shop at the front with a range of Turkish items, from bowls to lamps and more.

And in case you’re wondering where the name came from, there is a very well known Pera Palace Hotel in Istanbul that was build in 1892 specifically to accommodate passengers on the Orient Express!

WynnumCentral got to sit down very briefly with owner and head chef Angel who – as she explained – has made the restaurant as much like home as she can, because she knows she will be spending a lot of her time there!
