For the second year running the place to be on the Bayside to celebrate Halloween is the Wynnum Halloween Parade tomorrow Saturday 28th October. The action kicks off from 3pm until 9pm with food trucks, rides and markets. Also many of the Wynnum Central retailers will be open for Trick or Treat from 3.30 pm. Here are the main details…
- Trick or Treat 3.30pm-5.30pm through Wynnum Central retailers (see link to map below)
- Entertainment on the main stage 4.30pm-5.30pm
- Halloween Parade along Bay Terrace 6pm
- Entertainment on the main stage 7pm
- Best dressed judging 7.20pm
All members of the community are invited to participate in the parade (although vehicles registrations have now closed) – parade marshals and parade volunteers will organise the parade at the muster point which is between Berrima Street and Bride Street on Bay Terrace. The parade route starts at this point on Bay Terrace and then travels towards Edith Street where it turns right (into Edith Street) and finishes at Chemist Warehouse.
A few points to note…
- The event is alcohol free (drinking alcohol is only permitted in licensed premises at the event)
- Disabled parking is available (although space is limited) under Wynnum Shopping Centre and there is also access parking at the Wynnum Community Centre
- Organisers suggest coming to Wynnum by train (getting off at Wynnum Central station); closest parking would be at the waterfront along The Esplanade
- Parking restrictions in Wynnum Central come into force from 2pm and roads will close 3pm-9pm
- There are no restrictions on bringing dogs along, however the organisers point out that the likely high level of attendance at the parade and the limited space during the parade may be scary for them
- Toilet facilities – near Anytime Fitness on the corner of Florence Street and Bay Terrace and at the Community Centre in Florence Street as well as toilets near the corner of Bay Terrace and Charlotte Street
- First Aid – there will be a first aid station at 89 Bay Terrace (in front of Bayside Hand Therapy)
- Entering the Best Dressed Competition – the best way to be chosen as a finalist in the Best Dressed Competition is to join the Parade – head to the Berrima Street end of Bay Terrace at 5.30pm and locate one of the Parade Marshalls. They have the finalist cards so you can enter the Judging Parade on the main stage at 7.15pm.
